Often due to poisoning or diarrhoea:
- castor oil as a cathartic to clear toxic material
- Hot Enema until lower bowel is clean, followed by a Starch, or Starch and laudanum Enema then
- abdominal Fomentations repeated every 2-4hrs until pain relieved, prolong with lamps or pads over Fomentations
- Hot Water Bottle used between Fomentations
