For patients who cannot produce enough heat, that is a poor reactive ability, or the very nervous patient. Watch carefully for any of the adverse reaction especially chilliness
Avoid cold to chest or abdomen
- Cold Mitten Friction
- Fomentations to spine
- Electric Light Bath
- Vapor Bath
- Hot Tub Bath or Hot Air Bath for 3-10 min
- followed by... Graduated Tonic Cold 24-27°C for 10-20 sec
- especially Pail Pour or 18-21°C for 4-6 sec, but work up to 13-15°C for 1-3 sec.
- Wet Sheet Rub
- graduated Scotch Douche, gradually extending the cold to 10- 30sec
- very Hot Foot Bath, as hot as can be borne to take the mind off the simultaneous Cold Douche (jet Spray )
- very hot Shower or Spray 43-49°C 1-3 min with gradually increasing temperature followed immediately by Cold Douche to the spine or spine and legs gradually lowered to 20-15°C
Indications:-
Feeble - watch for adverse reactions
- Nervous System Irritability (those who are afraid of cold or have a nervous temperament)
- Anaemia or Emaciation or convalescents
- Cardiac Insufficiency
- Arteriosclerosis
- Hypopepsia especially in Mania
- advanced Tuberculosis especially if Pulmonary Haemorrhage
- Diabetes with Emaciation
- Acute Nephritis and Chronic Nephritis
- Tabes Dorsalis
- extreme Exhaustion
- Children under 7
