A sudorific reactionary Excitant effect that produces sweating and increases renal activity, used in obesity, oedema, nephritis and icterus, usually a sweating treatment or neutral, with tonic cold afterwards
Encourage weight loss
Only use brief or mild treatments in Cardiac Insufficiency as can cause death in steam baths.
Indications:-
- Obesity
- Anasarca - or other serous deposits in tissues or cavities
- Sedentary Lifestyle - tones the body
- Oedema - in cardiac weakness make heat very mild
- in Anaemia or Chlorosis full treatments are OK
- in Acute Nephritis (see below)
- in Anaemia - very effective
- Sudorifics
- especially Electric Light Bath in any cardiac problems
- Follow or interrupt with vigorous Tonic Cold especially:
- Cold Douche
- Cold Shower
- Cold Pail Pour at a 10-15°C for 10-20 seconds longer than required, to achieve a good reaction
- In cardiac weakness use
- Douche 24-27°C to feet and leg first, then arms and backs and chest last after rubbing with cold water chest, face and neck.
- In Cardiac Insufficiency
- Cold Mitten Friction
- always follow with Dry Friction
- In Oedema of Renal Congestion
- in Smallpox
- Scarlet Fever
- Puerperal Complications and
- Diphtheria and in children
- Hot Blanket Pack - keep head wet but not cold
- In Chronic Nephritis with sudden Oedema or any nephritis
- Heat for 10 min and mild especially Electric Light Bath
- with Precordial Compress
- follow with very graduated Cold Mitten Friction
- if there is poor reaction use Cold Mitten Friction but keep well covered to prevent chilling
- return to bed for a few hours to prevent chilling
- Neutral Tub Bath and especially Effervescent Bath
- In Jaundice eliminates Itching and bile
- Electric Light Bath followed by immediately sweating begins...
- Neutral Tub Bath
- In Pruritis
- Hot Sponge
- In reducing Hernia
- Hot Tub Bath then reduction
- In Dislocations
- large Fomentations
