Very hot or very cold
Less commonly used than Reflex Haemostatic
Very Hot (60-70°C):-
applied directly to small bleed or oozing
- Hot Douche
- Hot Compress
- Steam Jet
- Nasal Irrigation and facial Sponge in Epistaxis
- Vaginal Irrigation in Menorrhagia (best treatment) usually 52-54°C but up to 70°C, never more than 5 min.
- Intra-Uterine Irrigation in Metrorrhagia or post-partum
- Bladder Irrigation in bladder Haemorrhages
Very cold (0-5°C):-
- ice in all its applications
- ether or rhigolene spray applied across trunk of main supplying artery or direct to small bleed
- Ice Collar
- pack nose with ice
- swallow ice pills
- large Cooling Compress over stomach
