I. Acute

General Method:

• Bed Rest
• withhold food 24 - 48 hours
• Liquid Diet, Fruit Juice, gruels of Dextrinised Cereals and Malted Foods
• Fomentations every 2 hrs, 15-20 min, in interval...
  • Heating Compress at 15°C change every 5 min, less often if no fever

Problems:

• Albuminuria
• Fevers
• Flatulence
• Cardiac Insufficiency
• Bowel Obstruction

II. Chronic

General Method:

• Aseptic and Liquid Diet
• Hot Enema with soap followed by...
  • Fomentations to abdomen 20 min 3x daily
  • Protected Heating Compress during interval changed 30 min
• copious Water Drinking
• Graduated Tonic Cold 2x daily
• If elevated temperature Neutral Tub Bath 30-60 min daily

Contra-indications:

• cold Immersions
• Prolonged cold treatments

followed by

II. Chronic

• Toxaemia

Local Eliminative

• Wet Girdle
