Paralysis of the 7th cranial nerve
Many causes, the commonest: chilling of the side of the head leading to local oedema pinching the nerve where it passes through its narrow canal in the temporal bone.
Early treatment:
- Infrared radiation 20min followed by
- Galvanic Current for 5-10min daily
- support face with strapping at night
After the first week: to maintain muscle health till nerve regeneration - may require several months
- mild heat, gentle massage of muscles
- interrupted Galvanic Current take care not to overstimulate
